Treasured by Christ: Your True Worth in God’s Love
Worth is a heavy thing to carry when you think you have to prove it.
People measure worth in many ways: usefulness, beauty, success, money, reputation, talent, self-control, spiritual progress. Even in the church, the heart can quietly ask, “Have I done enough? Have I become enough? Would God still treasure me if He saw what I see?”
Jesus speaks straight into that fear when He says, “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21). He is not only warning us about loving the wrong treasures. He is also revealing something about His own heart.
Jesus knows a treasure when He sees one.
From the Old Testament onward, the Lord calls His people His treasured possession. Not because they are strong. Not because they are flawless. Not because they shine by nature. He treasures them because He has set His love on them. In Christ, that love becomes visible in the flesh. The Son of God gives up everything to reclaim sinners as His own.
That is where true worth begins. Your value rests in the love of Christ for you. And because His treasure is His people, His heart remains with His people too. He still comes near with the priceless gifts of His Word and Sacrament.
